Before fully pivoting to the polished, blackened death metal that would make them global superstars, the Polish group recorded a remarkably folk-infused black metal album. Nergal incorporated acoustic guitars, prominent female vocals, and pagan lyrical themes into the raw, aggressive blast beats characteristic of the era's extreme underground.
