If You're Feeling Sinister

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Belle and Sebastian's second album, 'If You're Feeling Sinister', pairs Stuart Murdoch's literate, character-driven narratives with a sparse, acoustic-based production aesthetic. The arrangements feature gentle, jangling guitars, strings, and piano, creating a deceptively light chamber-pop sound that often belies the melancholic and observational nature of its lyrics. Recorded in just over a week, the album's intimate feel and detailed songwriting established a benchmark for the indie pop genre and proved highly influential on subsequent generations of introspective indie acts.
