Album Notes & Community Reviews

Written largely during an extended stay in Mexico City, the sophomore album from the American songwriter expands heavily on the raw garage-blues foundation of his debut. The tracking introduces sweeping gospel vocal arrangements and deep Southern soul horns to back his distinctively raspy, impassioned vocal style. The lyricism provides a deeply introspective, socio-political reflection on modern racial injustices in America, notably featuring a powerful guest appearance by Mavis Staples.
