Album Notes & Community Reviews
Big L's only album released during his lifetime, 'Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous', is a hallmark of mid-90s New York hip-hop, celebrated for the artist's masterful lyricism, intricate punchlines, and vivid street-level narratives. The production, primarily from Diggin' in the Crates Crew members like Lord Finesse and Buckwild, provides a sonic landscape of jazzy loops and hard-hitting snares that balances radio-friendly tracks such as 'Put It On' against the darker, horrorcore-inflected themes of songs like 'Danger Zone'. Though a modest commercial performer upon its debut, the album solidified Big L's posthumous legacy as a formidable and highly respected MC, showcasing a diverse range of topics from braggadocio to social commentary.
