Album Notes & Community Reviews

On 'GOLLIWOG', billy woods constructs a cinematic tapestry of horror, surrealism, and Afropessimism, using the provocative title to confront themes of inherited trauma and a hostile world. A vast roster of producers, including The Alchemist and El-P, crafts a disorienting and abrasive soundscape, marked by dissonant strings, jarring samples, and textures that hum with static and noise. Woods' characteristically dense and eloquent lyricism is delivered in a measured, declamatory style, weaving between abstract imagery and fragmented narratives to create a work that is both a feat of sound design and a challenging, cohesive artistic statement.
