billy woods
- Type: Rapper/MC
- Born: c. 1978 in Washington, D.C., USA
Biography
An enigmatic and deliberately private figure in underground hip-hop, billy woods makes dense, literary music that explores history, colonialism and personal memory. Born in Washington, D.C., and raised partly in Zimbabwe, he brings a worldly perspective to a nonlinear, fragmented narrative style. In 2003 he founded the independent label #Backwoodz Studioz#, a vital platform for experimental artists. Through his solo work and as half of the duo *Armand Hammer*, woods has defined a distinct lane in abstract hip-hop, marked by a deliberate, conversational flow and an uncompromising artistic vision.
