In a highly polarizing and experimental move, Black Flag explicitly split their album between Henry Rollins's intense, misanthropic spoken-word poetry and Greg Ginn's complex, atonal jazz-punk instrumentals. 'Family Man' completely abandons traditional hardcore song structures for a deeply disturbing, avant-garde exploration of musical tension and instrumental dissonance. It stands as a dark, highly aggressive testament to their boundary-pushing post-hardcore evolution.
