Album Notes & Community Reviews
Recorded during a prolific stretch for the fiery tenor saxophonist, 'Heavy!!!' finds Booker Ervin steering a formidable sextet through complex, robust hard bop structures. The inclusion of heavyweights like Jimmy Owens and Garnett Brown adds dense harmonic depth to the front line, contrasting beautifully with Ervin's wailing, impassioned solos. The session exemplifies the aggressive, blues-drenched aesthetic of late-60s Prestige jazz.
