The Space Book

This album captures the immense power and creativity of tenor saxophonist Booker Ervin. It is a prime example of his 'out-bop' style: firmly rooted in the Texas tenor tradition of blues and swing, but pushing the harmony and energy into freer territory. The performance is elevated by the incredible rhythm section, particularly Jaki Byard's stylistically adventurous piano and the deep, resonant bass of Richard Davis.
