Album Notes & Community Reviews

Operating at the absolute vanguard of the British pub rock movement, Nick Lowe's ensemble delivered a wonderfully relaxed, country-inflected set of back-to-basics rock and roll. The recording deliberately eschews progressive complexity in favor of tight, highly melodic songwriting and cover tracks that pay homage to vintage American roots music. It is a defining, unpretentious artifact that perfectly set the stage for the late 70s new wave.
