Album Notes & Community Reviews

In a deliberate attempt to broaden his commercial appeal, the incredibly potent alto saxophonist dials back his aggressive, blues-drenched hard bop intensity to navigate a highly romanticized set of pop standards. Supported by lush, heavily orchestrated string sections arranged by Richard Hayman, his massive tone remains beautifully lyrical and deeply expressive. While highly polished, the sweetened, easy-listening production provides a fascinating, slightly restrained contrast to his typically fiery, hard-swinging output.
