Biography
Alto saxophonist Julian 'Cannonball' Adderley was a towering figure of the hard bop and soul jazz movements. His exuberant, blues-soaked playing made him one of the most popular jazzmen of his era. After a pivotal tenure with the *Miles Davis* Sextet, appearing on the iconic albums 'Milestones' and 'Kind of Blue', he formed his own highly successful quintet with his brother *Nat Adderley*. The group, a key popularizer of soul jazz, recorded for labels like #Riverside# and #Capitol#, producing enduring hits including 'This Here' and the Grammy-winning 'Mercy, Mercy, Mercy', solidifying his legacy as a master of joyous, communicative jazz.
