Recorded during his tenure with the Miles Davis Sextet, 'Somethin' Else' stands as a pivotal cool jazz session, although often considered a de facto Miles Davis-led date given his prominent role in selecting material and directing the performances. Cannonball Adderley's jubilant, blues-inflected alto saxophone creates a dynamic contrast with Davis's lyrical and spacious muted trumpet, exemplified in their definitive reading of "Autumn Leaves".
