Marking Car Seat Headrest's first release on Matador Records, 'Teens of Style' serves as an introductory compilation, presenting newly recorded versions of songs from Will Toledo’s early Bandcamp discography. While retaining the project's signature lo-fi aesthetic and Toledo’s deadpan vocal delivery, the album features the project's first recordings as a full band, giving the established songwriting a sonically expanded and more robust arrangement. The collection acts as a bridge from Toledo's solo bedroom-pop origins to the higher-fidelity studio work that would follow, showcasing his established lyrical themes of youthful anxiety and self-awareness.
