Album Notes & Community Reviews

Chan Marshall's incredibly brief, deeply affecting debut was captured in a single, impromptu New York basement recording session. Accompanied by Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley and Two Dollar Guitar's Tim Foljahn, the remarkably sparse, feedback-laden instrumentation perfectly frames her fragile, deeply melancholic vocal delivery. The incredibly lo-fi, deeply anxious recording provided a terrifyingly vulnerable introduction to one of independent music's most celebrated songwriters.
