On his sophomore solo effort 'Sojourn', King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard drummer Michael Cavanagh expands from the percussion-focused constraints of his debut to serve as a composer and bandleader for a full ensemble. The all-instrumental album is a lush fusion of spiritual jazz, funk, and '70s psychedelia, featuring prominent flute, bass, and keyboard work from collaborators. Conceived as a rhythmic journey through a mystical, uncharted jungle, the record marks a significant evolution in Cavanagh's musical identity, establishing a distinct creative voice as an arranger.
