Album Notes & Community Reviews
Serving as the pianist's remarkably audacious debut, this recording actively deconstructs traditional bebop vocabulary through intense dissonance and highly percussive, clustered chording. While still tethered to a recognizable rhythm section featuring Steve Lacy on soprano saxophone, the structures constantly threaten to explode into pure, abstract free improvisation. It signaled the arrival of a fiercely uncompromising visionary who would fundamentally alter the trajectory of modern jazz.
