After years of serving as a highly sought-after sideman, the immensely talented pianist made his leadership debut with this quintessential hard bop session. Featuring a stellar lineup that includes trumpeter Kenny Dorham and saxophonist Junior Cook, the quintet navigates Walton's deeply swinging, sophisticated original compositions with incredible precision. The album firmly established him as a premier composer and bandleader within the acoustic jazz tradition.
