Album Notes & Community Reviews

Recorded by Chris Strachwitz for Arhoolie Records, this album effectively introduced the fiery, accordion-driven sound of zydeco music to a broader international audience. Clifton Chenier, the undisputed 'King of Zydeco', masterfully blends French-Creole traditional melodies with heavy, swampy rhythm and blues. The record captures the irresistible, highly syncopated dance energy of rural Louisiana roadhouses.
