Biography
Clifton Chenier (June 25, 1925 to December 12, 1987) was an American accordionist and singer from Opelousas, Louisiana, billed as the King of Zydeco. Singing in Creole French and playing piano accordion with his brother Cleveland on rubboard, he fused Cajun and Creole music with blues and rhythm and blues from his 1954 recording debut onward. Albums such as 'Bogalusa Boogie' (1976) spread the music nationally, and 'I'm Here!' (1982) won a Grammy Award. He was later given a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
