Garlands
by Cocteau Twins
The Cocteau Twins' debut album presents a skeletal, distinctly darker iteration of the ethereal sound they would later perfect. Built around Will Heggie's pulsing basslines and a rigid drum machine, 'Garlands' features Robin Guthrie's heavily distorted guitar washes and Elizabeth Fraser's early, mysterious vocal stylings. It is a sombre, intensely cold, and atmospheric landmark of gothic post-punk.
