Operating as a duo following the departure of bassist Will Heggie, the Cocteau Twins significantly darkened and thickened their sound on 'Head Over Heels'. Robin Guthrie layers dense, heavily modulated guitar tracks to create a cold, swirling atmosphere beneath Elizabeth Fraser's increasingly cryptic, operatic vocals. The album is a profoundly mysterious, ethereal wave landmark dripping with gothic romanticism.
