Album Notes & Community Reviews

On his solo debut 'The Black Door', guitarist Cole Berliner departs from the frantic synthpop and post-punk of his previous projects, Kamikaze Palm Tree and Sharpie Smile, to craft a haunting, instrumental suite. Originally conceived as solo acoustic guitar tracks, the compositions expand into rich arrangements for an acoustic-electric ensemble featuring violinist Laena Myers, bassist Garret Lang, and drummer Dylan Hadley. The album blends American Primitivism, chamber folk, and pastoral country modes into an expansive, cinematic vision of the American landscape. Berliner's intricate work on acoustic and lap steel guitars is accented by delicate piano, woodwinds, and subtle synthesizer layers, creating an evocative study of memory and quiet, rural isolation.
