Album Notes & Community Reviews

Featuring legendary samba composers Z茅 K茅ti, Elton Medeiros, and a young Paulinho da Viola, this album is a monumental celebration of authentic Rio de Janeiro roots music. Rejecting the jazz-infused complexity of bossa nova, 'Roda de samba' focuses on raw, highly percussive communal playing and brilliant vocal interplay. It played a critical role in the 1960s revitalization and preservation of traditional, working-class samba.
