King of Swing

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Documenting the legendary orchestra during a period of massive artistic revitalization, this robust collection highlights the incredibly tight, blues-drenched power of his 'New Testament' band. The exceptionally swinging, brass-heavy charts feature brilliant, concise solos anchored by the leader's famously minimalist, perfectly timed piano interjections. The flawlessly executed record reaffirmed the ensemble's status as the absolute pinnacle of mid-century large-group swing.
