Camgirl

Album Notes & Community Reviews

On their third album 'Camgirl', the Boston-based gothic noise rock outfit Crippling Alcoholism shifts its sound, placing synths front and center to create a style self-described as "murder pop". The album's concept narrative follows a digital sex worker's descent into madness, using hook-centric, synth-heavy arrangements and frontman Tony Castrati's bleary baritone to explore themes of self-loathing, exploitation, and commodified intimacy. Production on the record balances this newfound pop sensibility with dissonant, cacophonous noise and cinematic textures, creating a sound that is both alluring and unnerving.
