Taking a massive stylistic gamble, the Swedish pioneers integrated somber, Depeche Mode-esque electronics and prominent clean baritone vocals into their foundational melodic death metal framework. This highly atmospheric, gothic-tinged experimentation alienated some purists but fundamentally expanded the emotional and sonic palette of the Gothenburg scene.
