Album Notes & Community Reviews
Exploring rigorous, classically-influenced counterpoint within a modern jazz framework, this ensemble's recordings are pivotal to the development of the West Coast aesthetic. The highly arranged structures and unusual instrumentation provide a cerebral alternative to the prevailing, blues-driven bebop sound of the era.
