Biography
Dave Brubeck was a pioneering American jazz pianist and composer who brought modern jazz to a massive international audience. After studying with classical composer *Darius Milhaud*, he formed his celebrated quartet, which became one of the most successful jazz acts in history. He championed the use of unusual time signatures, with his iconic 1959 album 'Time Out' on #Columbia Records# proving that rhythmically complex music could also be irresistibly popular. The album's hit single 'Take Five', composed by saxophonist *Paul Desmond*, became the best-selling jazz single of all time. Brubeck's work, a unique blend of cool jazz and classical sensibilities, made him a cultural ambassador for the United States.
