Dave Digs Disney

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Inspired by a family trip to Disneyland, the notoriously high-minded pianist transforms familiar animated movie themes into remarkably sophisticated, tightly swinging cool jazz excursions. The session perfectly highlights the airy, intensely lyrical alto saxophone work of Paul Desmond intertwining with the leader's highly percussive, block-chord accompaniment. The highly accessible concept project proved to be a massive commercial success, effectively normalizing the reinvention of pop-culture novelties within modern jazz.
