Album Notes & Community Reviews

Commissioned by the Union of American Hebrew Congregations and the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music, Dave Brubeck's cantata 'The Gates of Justice' was previewed at the dedication of Cincinnati's Rockdale Temple in October 1969 before its premiere days later in Miami. The roughly fifty-minute score sets biblical texts alongside words of Martin Luther King Jr. and the sage Hillel, compiled largely by Iola Brubeck, and the original recording features cantor Harold Orbach, baritone McHenry Boatwright and the Westminster Choir.
