Album Notes & Community Reviews

Stepping out from Pere Ubu, the idiosyncratic frontman enlisted British folk-rock luminaries Richard Thompson and Chris Cutler to craft this deeply eccentric solo effort. 'Variations on a Theme' blends frantic, avant-prog structures with sea shanties and Thomas's distinctively warbling, manic vocal delivery. The album is a brilliantly bizarre exploration of surreal, theatrical art rock.
