New Bermuda

New Bermuda cover art

On 'New Bermuda', Deafheaven pivoted from the brighter shoegaze textures of its predecessor toward a darker and more aggressive sound, foregrounding influences from thrash, death, and traditional black metal. Lyrically, the album explores themes of disillusionment and the anxiety of finding a new, unsettling home, a concept vocalist George Clarke described as a nebulous and dark destination. Producer Jack Shirley's live-to-tape engineering captures the compositions' dynamic intensity, from ferocious blast beats and intricate guitar riffs to serene, melodic interludes and piano codas.
