Deafheaven

Deafheaven is an American band formed in 2010, known for pioneering the 'blackgaze' genre by fusing the intensity of black metal with the atmospheric textures of shoegaze. [1, 5] Initially a duo of vocalist George Clarke and guitarist Kerry McCoy, the band expanded to create a sound characterized by blistering blast beats, harsh screamed vocals, and soaring, melodic guitar passages. [1, 5] Their breakthrough album, "Sunbather" (2013), achieved widespread critical acclaim, breaking the band out of the underground metal scene and onto numerous year-end lists. [2, 5] Deafheaven's style explores themes of melancholy, philosophy, and introspection, creating emotionally charged soundscapes that have influenced both the metal and indie music communities.
