Purpendicular
by Deep Purple
Marking a massive structural transition for the hard rock pioneers, the record introduced American virtuoso Steve Morse as the permanent replacement for founding guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. Morse's highly eclectic, surprisingly playful guitar work completely revitalized the band's dynamic, injecting fresh, jazzy, and blues-oriented energy into their classic sound. The successful reinvention essentially saved the group from impending dissolution in the mid-90s.
