Album Notes & Community Reviews

Featuring bassist Charlie Haden and drummer Jerry Granelli, the brilliant psychiatrist-turned-pianist explores incredibly sophisticated harmonic territory on 'Carnival'. Denny Zeitlin's compositions are characterized by dense, shifting time signatures and intricate, post-bop lyricism that frequently blur the line between structured hard bop and avant-garde freedom. The trio setting provides a highly interactive canvas for his unique, deeply cerebral improvisational approach.
