Album Notes & Community Reviews
Radically shifting their image and sound, Kevin Rowland transformed Dexys Midnight Runners from upbeat pop-soul into an incredibly complex, highly theatrical art-pop ensemble. The album features sprawling, conversational spoken-word monologues, deeply anxious introspection, and intricate, jazz-inflected piano arrangements. 'Don't Stand Me Down' is a fiercely eclectic, notoriously uncompromising, and deeply passionate masterpiece that initially baffled critics and fans alike.
