Birks' Works

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Leading a robust, heavily brass-oriented orchestra, the bebop pioneer successfully translates the complex harmonic language of small-group modern jazz to a massive scale. The exceptionally swinging, tightly arranged charts provide a thrilling backdrop for the trumpeter's famously acrobatic, high-register solos. The project highlights his immense talent not only as an instrumentalist but as a highly capable, visionary bandleader.
