Dizzy Gillespie

A principal architect of bebop. Gillespie's harmonic sophistication, technical virtuosity, and rhythmic innovations—particularly his integration of Afro-Cuban music—laid the groundwork for much of modern jazz. His trumpet playing was fiery, brilliant, and utterly unique.
