Album Notes & Community Reviews

Capturing an exuberant performance at the Juan-les-Pins jazz festival, this set showcases the bebop pioneer eagerly embracing the burgeoning bossa nova craze. Ably supported by pianist Lalo Schifrin, whose arrangements expertly weave complex Brazilian rhythms into a swinging post-bop framework, the trumpeter delivers flawlessly energetic, highly lyrical solos. The highly successful recording helped solidify the commercial dominance of the bossa nova crossover movement in the early 1960s.
