Album Notes & Community Reviews

Showcasing the bebop pioneer adopting a slightly more relaxed, cool jazz-oriented approach, this session highlights his remarkable ability to adapt his fiery virtuosity to subdued frameworks. Accompanied by a tightly swinging quintet featuring pianist Junior Mance, the trumpeter explores a set of standard melodies with characteristic wit and technical brilliance. The project provides a highly enjoyable, incredibly accessible glimpse into his sophisticated late-1950s aesthetic.
