'Evil Wayz' is a foundational instrumental tape that helped birth the modern phonk movement by dragging 1990s Memphis rap aesthetics into the internet age. DJ Smokey heavily employs chopped and screwed vocal samples, eerie synthesizer lines, and massive 808 bass, creating a sinister, lo-fi atmosphere. The project served as a direct aesthetic blueprint for the vast underground phonk scene that would explode on SoundCloud in the following years.
