Album Notes & Community Reviews

Anchoring Brazilian popular music to its rich Afro-Bahian roots, the revered composer delivers an exceptionally evocative, highly poetic collection of regional narratives. The lush, cinematic arrangements flawlessly frame his profoundly resonant, deeply commanding baritone voice on a selection of romantic, mid-tempo sambas. The culturally monumental release significantly elevated the sophistication of the genre, providing an essential harmonic precursor to the impending bossa nova movement.
