Operating primarily as a duo following the departure of their founding bassist, Ian McCulloch and Will Sergeant leaned heavily into polished, string-laden balladry. The veteran post-punk group significantly dialed back the dark, swirling guitar rock of their legendary 1980s output in favor of mature, introspective alternative pop.
