Stripped down to a core trio and operating without their trademark string section, Jeff Lynne concluded the initial run of ELO with a heavily synthesized, straightforward pop-rock effort. The lush, symphonic elements were replaced entirely by prominent drum machines and gleaming keyboards, reflecting the dominant commercial aesthetics of the decade.
