Secret Messages
by Electric Light Orchestra
Originally intended as a double album, Jeff Lynne's ambitious project was drastically truncated prior to release due to record label pressure. The album is laden with intentional backward masking and hidden vocal snippets, serving as a sarcastic rebuttal to contemporary accusations of satanic messages in rock music. Musically, it fully integrates drum machines and heavy sequencing into ELO's symphonic pop framework.
