Album Notes & Community Reviews

Temporarily setting aside his pioneering honky-tonk swagger, the 'Texas Troubadour' delivers a deeply reverent collection of sacred country hymns. Ernest Tubb's flat, unadorned vocal delivery brings an earnest, working-class sincerity to the gospel repertoire. 'The Old Rugged Cross' perfectly reflects the foundational role of Protestant spirituals within mid-century Nashville commercial music.
