Contrasts

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Showcasing the deeply idiosyncratic, famously unorthodox piano style of the completely self-taught virtuoso, this delightful trio session highlights his unique approach to rhythm and phrasing. His signature, relentless left-hand strumming and slightly delayed, highly melodic right-hand improvisations breathe incredible joy and swing into a varied set of standards. The accessible, deeply entertaining record perfectly captures the charismatic brilliance that made him one of the era's most popular instrumentalists.
