Album Notes & Community Reviews

A brilliant transitional album from trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, 'Straight Life' captures a pivotal moment as fiery, acoustic post-bop began to fully embrace electric instrumentation. The session features an all-star lineup navigating long, open-ended improvisations over infectious vamps. It's a key document that bridges the gap between the acoustic 60s and the electric 70s, retaining the high-level improvisation of hard bop within a new, electric context.
