Album Notes & Community Reviews

Making his debut as a leader for Blue Note, organist Freddie Roach offers a more subdued, atmospheric take on the typically aggressive soul jazz format. 'Down to Earth' features Percy France on tenor saxophone and emphasizes deeply melodic, slow-burning grooves rather than frantic virtuosity. The album establishes Roach's unique, remarkably delicate approach to the often overpowering Hammond B-3.
